Food drop ins, also known as soup kitchens, provide a very substantial form of food aid provision in the city of Leeds. A significant proportion of the people they serve have experienced or are experiencing homelessness. Two of the main characteristics which drop ins have is that they are accessible without the need for a referral and often involve the serving of a meal or sandwich and/or soup.
Churches and Christian initiatives have been known for running and providing a suitable venue for this type of food provision to take place and there may be some facilities that are aimed specifically at catering for refugees and asylum seekers. Please read below regarding some of the different types of drop ins in Leeds.

Food pantries operate by enabling vulnerable people to pay £3:50 a week to receive approximately £15 of fresh food each week. This is supplied by organisations such as FareShare Yorkshire and Rethink Food. The three current partnerships in the city of Leeds are coordinated by Your Local Pantry, Family Action Food Clubs and Health for All.
Simon on the Streets provides compassionate care to the homeless community in Leeds. The charity is involved with doing targeted street outreach five days a week. This includes going out on a Tuesday evening where the charity will signpost people to the drop-in at St Anne’s Resource Centre. The charity as a whole also operates in Kirklees and Bradford. For more information please follow here
Case studies are a means of capturing and recording the stories of people accessing support and can be useful for exploring a situation in depth and detail. Case stories can help provide a rounded picture of the person’s journey.
